About the role
Ucanly for Education is an AI career platform that helps Indian students and freshers get hired. Students follow a personalised Career Roadmap, take structured courses, use the AI Mentor and Resume Lab, build up a Hire Readiness Score, and apply to jobs and internships directly from their Ucanly profile.
As a Backend Engineer Intern, you will work on the services behind all of this. Most of your work will be building and fixing API endpoints and the database queries behind them.
What you will work on
- APIs for accounts, course enrolment, lesson progress, and certificates
- Roadmap and Hire Readiness Score data: storing progress, recalculating scores, and serving them quickly to the dashboard
- The jobs portal: job postings, custom application questions, and one-click applications from a student profile
- Background jobs such as reminder emails, notifications, and score recalculation
- Logging and error handling so problems can be found and fixed quickly
How you will work
Ucanly is a small team, and everyone owns their work end to end. You will write a short plan before starting anything non-trivial, open small pull requests, and add tests for the code you change. You will learn how to read logs, reproduce bugs, and deploy safely. Your changes will reach students within days.

What you'll be doing
- Build and maintain REST API endpoints with input validation, error handling, and clear responses
- Write and optimise database queries and schema migrations
- Implement background jobs for notifications, reminders, and Hire Readiness Score updates
- Work on the jobs portal backend, including postings, application questions, and applications
- Write unit and integration tests for the code you add or change
- Investigate bugs using logs and error reports, and document what caused them
- Take ownership of small features end to end, from design note to deployment
What we're looking for
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
- Working knowledge of at least one backend language such as JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js), Python, Java, or Go
- Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL
- Understanding of HTTP, REST APIs, and authentication basics
- Familiarity with Git and pull-request based workflows
- Able to work from the Ucanly office in BTM Layout, Bengaluru
