About the role
Ucanly for Education is an AI career platform that helps Indian students and freshers get hired. Several parts of the platform depend on models that score, rank, or recommend: the Hire Readiness Score that evaluates a student's resume, skills, and interviews; Resume Lab's instant resume score; personalised Career Roadmaps; and matching students with jobs and internships.
As a Machine Learning Engineer Intern, you will help build and improve these models. You will work on the full path from data to a model that is actually used: exploring data, building features, training and evaluating models, and helping deploy them.
What you will work on
- Job and internship matching: ranking roles for a student based on their skills, roadmap progress, and readiness
- Readiness and resume scoring: checking that scores are consistent, explainable, and linked to real outcomes such as shortlists
- Course and roadmap recommendations: suggesting the next best step for each student
- Skill extraction from resumes and job descriptions
- Evaluating models with held-out data and metrics that match the product goal
How you will work
You will start from a clearly defined problem, agree on how success will be measured, and share progress in short written updates. Ucanly asks whether a change actually worked, so you will be expected to measure results honestly. Simple models that work are preferred over complex models that are hard to maintain.

What you'll be doing
- Clean, explore, and prepare student activity, resume, and job posting data for modelling
- Build and evaluate models for job matching, recommendations, and skill extraction
- Check that readiness and resume scores are consistent and linked to real hiring outcomes
- Choose evaluation metrics that reflect the product goal and report results honestly
- Package trained models for use in batch jobs or behind an API
- Write clear notes on experiments, including approaches that did not work
- Work with backend engineers to integrate models into the platform
What we're looking for
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
- Good Python skills, including pandas and NumPy
- Hands-on experience with scikit-learn, and familiarity with PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Understanding of core ML concepts such as train/test splits, overfitting, and common evaluation metrics
- Basic SQL for pulling data
- At least one ML project on a real dataset that you can explain in detail
- Able to work from the Ucanly office in BTM Layout, Bengaluru
