Become a Cloud and DevOps Engineer

Cloud and DevOps Engineer

A structured path to entry level cloud and DevOps roles: Linux, networking, AWS fundamentals, containers, CI and CD, and monitoring.

What a Cloud and DevOps Engineer does

A cloud and DevOps engineer builds and maintains the systems that run software: servers, networks, storage, pipelines and monitoring. A typical day includes automating deployments, checking alerts, fixing build failures, managing access and improving reliability.

Many freshers start in cloud support, operations or infrastructure roles and move into DevOps as they gain hands on experience.

Projects to build

  • Deploy one app three ways

Deploy the same application on a virtual machine, in a container, and on a managed service, and compare effort and cost.

  • CI pipeline

Set up a pipeline that runs tests and deploys automatically on every push to the main branch.

  • Monitoring setup

Add metrics, logs and an alert to a running application, and write a short note on what you would watch in production.

What interviews cover

  • Common Linux commands and file permissions
  • How DNS and HTTP requests work
  • Difference between virtual machines and containers
  • IaaS, PaaS and SaaS
  • What a CI and CD pipeline does
  • How you would troubleshoot a slow or failing application

Yes, at least scripting. Shell scripting and one language such as Python help you automate tasks.

A certification can help, but hands on projects you can explain matter more in interviews.
