Become a Machine Learning Engineer

Machine Learning Engineer

A structured path to entry level ML roles: Python, mathematics, classic machine learning, deep learning, evaluation and projects that show sound judgement.

What a Machine Learning Engineer does

A machine learning engineer builds, evaluates and deploys models that learn from data. A typical day includes preparing datasets, training and comparing models, measuring errors, and working with software engineers to put a model into a product.

Most freshers start in roles such as associate data scientist, ML engineer trainee or software engineer on an AI team. Strong Python, mathematics and software habits matter as much as knowledge of algorithms.

Projects to build

  • A model on a real problem

Train a model on a public dataset, compare it with a simple baseline, and write an honest error analysis of where it fails.

  • Retrieval based question answering

Build a chatbot that answers questions from a document set you choose, and record where it gives wrong answers.

  • Evaluation script

Write a script that tests your own model or chatbot on a fixed set of questions and reports accuracy over time.

What interviews cover

  • Bias and variance
  • Overfitting and how to reduce it
  • Precision, recall and when each matters
  • How gradient descent works
  • Train, validation and test splits
  • Explaining the results and limits of your project
