Infosys is one of the most sought after fresher employers in India, and it has more than one way in. Some students join through regular campus or off campus hiring, while strong coders can aim for specialised roles through coding contests and dedicated tracks. This guide explains the routes Infosys describes on its official careers pages, how each one selects candidates, and how to prepare depending on which route you choose.

Infosys announces eligibility, roles and assessment details with each drive. Older patterns shared on social media are often out of date, so confirm every detail on the official Infosys careers site before you register.

The main routes into Infosys for freshers

Infosys's graduate careers page links to several programmes. For technology students, four routes stand out.

  1. Regular graduate hiring through campus drives and the Infosys careers portal for India.
  2. HackWithInfy, a coding competition that can lead to pre placement interview opportunities.
  3. Power Programmers, a specialised coding unit within Infosys's Strategic Technology Group, entered at the Specialist Programmer level.
  4. InStep, Infosys's internship programme for students.

Infosys also lists InfyTQ, which it describes as a learning and engagement platform.

Route 1: Regular graduate hiring

This is the path most students take. You apply through your college's Infosys drive or through graduate listings on the official Infosys careers portal for India.

Infosys publishes the role, eligibility and assessment details in each drive notice rather than on a single permanent page. When a listing opens, check:

  • Which degrees, branches and graduating years are eligible
  • Any minimum marks, backlog or gap conditions
  • The assessment format and duration
  • The last date to apply

For preparation, assume a mix of aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability and programming, followed by interviews. Large Indian IT services companies commonly test these areas for freshers. Confirm the exact sections in the official notice.

Route 2: HackWithInfy

HackWithInfy is Infosys's coding competition for engineering students. For the current cycle, Infosys invited engineering students graduating in 2027 to register. The published timeline was:

  • Starting Block, January to March 2026: a preparation phase.
  • Round 1, March 2026: a virtual coding contest.
  • Round 2, April 2026: a face to face coding contest. Qualifiers get a chance at the Grand Finale and an Infosys pre placement interview opportunity.
  • Grand Finale, November 2026: a four day event with top coders.

Infosys says rewards include pre placement interview opportunities for the Specialist Programmer role and other roles in its specialised units, internship opportunities, exclusive projects, mentorship, and cash prizes for the top three teams. Infosys publishes sample questions and terms on the HackWithInfy page, and lists hackwithinfy@infosys.com for queries.

If you are in your pre final year and enjoy competitive programming, HackWithInfy is worth planning for months ahead.

Route 3: Power Programmers and the Specialist Programmer role

Infosys describes Power Programmers as an exclusive coding unit within its Strategic Technology Group, made up of polyglot engineers. The Specialist Programmer role is the entry level of this track, which progresses to Senior Technologist, Principal Technologist and Distinguished Technologist.

Infosys says it looks for:

  • Full stack capability and the ability to work in several languages
  • Strong foundations in data structures and algorithms
  • Depth in chosen technology areas
  • Problem solving across complex client challenges

It lists technology areas including microservices with Java, .NET, Spring Boot and Kubernetes, data engineering with Spark, Kafka and Python, and AI and ML.

Infosys describes the selection as four stages: registration through campus connects, referrals and targeted initiatives; coding rounds; live, hands on technical interviews with technologists; and final selection, after which candidates move into internships, training or projects.

Route 4: InStep internships

Infosys describes InStep as its internship programme for students from management, technology and liberal arts, with projects ranging from machine learning to leadership. Applications go through the Infosys job listings for internships in India.

How to prepare, by route

For regular hiring

  • Aptitude: percentages, ratios, time and work, time and distance, probability basics and data interpretation. Practise in timed sets.
  • Reasoning: puzzles, seating arrangements, series and syllogisms.
  • Verbal: reading comprehension, sentence correction and vocabulary in context.
  • Programming: one language, with daily practice on arrays, strings, sorting and basic recursion.
  • Core subjects: OOPs, DBMS and SQL, operating systems and networking basics.

Start by checking your baseline. Ucanly's free 15 minute aptitude test shows your score and every answer immediately, so you know which area needs the most work.

For HackWithInfy and Specialist Programmer

  • Data structures: arrays, strings, hash maps, stacks, queues, linked lists, trees, graphs and heaps.
  • Algorithms: sorting, binary search, two pointers, sliding window, recursion, greedy methods, dynamic programming and graph traversal.
  • Contest practice: solve timed contests weekly. Review every problem you could not solve, not just the ones you did.
  • Projects: build at least one full stack project you can explain in depth. Live technical interviews often move from code to design.

Interviews at Infosys

Whatever the route, expect interviewers to start from your resume. Be ready to explain each project, the reasoning behind your technical choices, and what you would do differently. For the HR conversation, prepare a clear introduction, honest answers on relocation and flexibility, and a specific reason for wanting to join Infosys. Our guide to campus placement preparation covers the interview stage step by step.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating every route the same. Regular hiring rewards balanced aptitude and fundamentals. Specialist coding roles reward depth in data structures and algorithms. Prepare for the route you are actually taking.
  • Learning several languages at once. Depth in one language is more useful in a timed test than surface knowledge of three.
  • Ignoring core subjects. Interviewers frequently move from your code to OOPs, DBMS or operating system questions.
  • Listing projects you cannot explain. Every line on your resume can become an interview question.
  • Missing official emails. Check your inbox and spam folders daily once you apply, and keep your documents ready.

Stay safe from recruitment fraud

Infosys links a Recruitment Fraud Alert page from its careers site. Read it before responding to any message that claims to offer an Infosys job. Apply only through infosys.com careers pages or your placement cell, and never pay anyone for an interview or offer letter. Our guide on spotting fake job offers explains the warning signs.

What to do this week

Decide which route fits you. If you are a strong coder in your pre final year, plan for HackWithInfy and start weekly contests now. If you are in your final year, watch the Infosys careers portal and your placement cell for the next drive, and build a daily aptitude and coding routine so you are ready when it opens.
